With the ever evolving data center the demand for custom equipment is becoming the norm. Data center racks have become taller, wider and deeper to accommodate increasing equipment densities. The most popular racks are 42U, 45U or 48U high, 24 inches or 30 inches wide and 42 inches or 48 inches deep. Recently, DAMAC was challenged with a clients need for extended height in their server rack while maintaining weight loads. While designing a taller rack was no issue for DAMAC, use of the rack became the question.
How do we ship a 57U rack internationally without additional charges? How will the rack fit through standard doorways for entry? How do we ship a fully populated rack without damaging equipment?
The solution…design a 12U Extension Unit that mounts to the top of your dream rack.
The proto-type for this rack was created from our FasTrak series. The FasTrak can hold 3,500 pounds of equipment when stationary, enabling it to facilitate growing weight loads. More importantly, it will maintain the EIA specification within the mounting area when shipped fully populated with up to 3,000 pounds of equipment.
The FasTrak also features larger casters than competitive products. This provides greater floor clearance, making it easier to load and unload the rack from a shipping crate and move a fully populated rack on both flat and angled surfaces.
The Rack Extension Unit ships separately from the rack allowing for ease of shipment and deployment into the data center. The unit fits on-top of the existing rack and is easily mounted once the rack has been placed. The Extension Unit is designed with the same standards as the rack it is mounting onto. In this case the 12U Extension Unit includes a coffin section, room for accessories and a cabinet top.
